Our daughter loves pickles. She steals them off Mom’s plate all the time. I love them too, so I decided to make us some fresh pickles to snack on. Pickles that would be free of any added preservatives and ingredients I can’t even pronounce.  Hope you enjoy.  Give it a try, it’s super easy and you will be glad you did.

Wait Time: 24-48 hours

Total Time: 1-2 days plus 10 mins

(This is something you will want to do in advance, then you can enjoy for days 


or weeks once they are ready to eat)

Experiment with other herbs and flavors you like.

Can also be applied to carrots, cauliflower or most other sturdy vegetables. Be creative and have fun!

  • 1 cups white or apple cider vinegar
  • 3 cups water
  • 1.5 1bs pickling, kirby, or cocktail cucumbers ( cut in half or spears)
  • 1 oz pickling spice
  • 4 garlic cloves
  • 5-6 sprigs fresh dill (optional)
  • 2 TBL kosher salt
  • 1 TBL sugar
  • 2-4 drops YL Dill essential oil
  • 2-4 drops YL Black Pepper essential oil


  1. Heat vinegar, water, salt and sugar in a saucepan.

  2.  Stir until salt and sugar is dissolved.

  3.  Cool completely

  4. In two 1 quart mason jars, add garlic, dill, pickling spice, essential oils and cucumbers.

  5. Pour cool brine over the top to completely cover.
    Screw lids on jars, refridgerate for 24-48 hrs before they are completely ready.


Pickles will be good for 2 months when refrigerated.
