7 ingredients 30-40 Minutes Intermediate


With the exception of making the caramel, which could be a little tricky if you have never done it before. This is a fairly easy dessert, which will produce excellent, restaurant style results. Great addition to Taco Tuesday, or any day.  Restaurant quality dishes made in your home kitchen are always sure to please your family and friends.  Give this flan a go, we think you will be pleased with the results

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 tbl water
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt


  1. Add sugar and H20 to a small, heavy bottom sauce pan.

  2. Heat over medium heat, until sugar has dissolved and H20 has evaporated. DO NOT STIR!!!

  3. Once the water has evaporated turn down the heat to medium low and allow caramel to cook until a nice golden brown color is achieved.

  4. Insert ramekins or souffle into roasting pan and fill with water halfway to 3/4 up the sides of the cooking vessel.

  5. Remove ramekins and place the pan of water into a 325 degree oven.

  6. Pour caramel into one large oven safe ceramic pan (for family style), or 6 individual ramekins.

  7. Allow caramel to completely cool, and harden.

  8. Whisk together custard ingredients and pour into souffle or equally into ramekins.

  9. Place into water bath and cook 30-40 minutes until just set.

  10. Remove to a wire rack and cool, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours or covered in plastic wrap for up to a week.

  11. When ready to serve, loosen edges with a small knife, and turn out onto a plate.
